Deported Veterans

Deported veterans are legal immigrant US soldiers who have committed crimes, are given no support to straighten out their lives, and are deported for life. Often the crimes are relatively small, and even tied to PTSD issues that can be addressed with counseling and other support services. Families are shattered, and opportunities to grow and improve one’s life are dramatically cut back.

Cesar Chavez (1927-1993)

Cesar Chavez was an American labor organizer and civil rights activist who transformed fields, dirt roads, picket lines and supermarkets into sacred spaces.

Mayerly Sánchez (b. 1984)

As a 12-year-old girl, Mayerly Sánchez started a children’s peace club in Colombia amid rising gang and guerrilla violence. She was part of the UNICEF workshop that launched the Children’s Movement for Peace. Today, she is one of the most important visionaries pursuing peace in Colombia.

Kailash Satyarthi

For over 30 years, Satyarthi has been a tireless campaigner for the rights of children and to rescue children from forced labor in factories, brickyards, and the sex trades. Over the years he has helped free almost 80,000 children from various slave conditions and helped them attain education and rehabilitation. He established a village “half-way” community to resettle rescued slaves.

Malala Yousafzai (b. 1997)

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani girl who has received global recognition for her published diary about life under the Taliban and her fearless advocacy for the education of girls in the face of Taliban violence. She is the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
