One of our Global Peace Warriors, Veronika Voloshyna, has been sharing in blogs and poetry about her experience living in Ukraine as Russia launched its invasion, then fleeing to The Netherlands where she has been living and working. She has shared many raw and deep feelings that give us a window into not only her own soul but to what so many experience when war rips into their lives. Here is her latest poem, originally written in Ukrainian and translated by Veronika into English:
Вона здатна любити так сильно,
Щоб минуле втрачало владу,
Вона піде з тобою разом
На Голгофу чи геть із Саду,
Вона здатна єднатись в коханні
Й водночас лишатись собою,
Милувати, пестити ніжно –
Й за потреби стати до зброї,
Вона здатна себе позбирати
Із уламків кораблетрощі
Ще й тебе до купи тримати,
Відганяти мороки ночі,
Вона здатна знаходити сенси
Там, де ти втомився шукати,
Вона вміє бачити серцем,
Розуміти, чути, прощати,
Вона здатна долати незгоди
По-жіночому сильно, вперто,
Хіба є щось їй непідвладне?!
Лиш одне. Воскресити з мертвих.

She is capable of loving so much,
That the past loses its power,
She will go with you
To Calvary or out of the Garden,
She can be united in love
And at the same time remain herself,
She can be tender, she can caress
And if necessary, take up arms,
She is able to reassemble herself
From the wreckage of a shipwreck,
And to hold you together,
Driving away the darkness of the night,
She can find meaning
Where you’re tired of looking,
She can see with her heart,
Understand, hear, forgive,
She’s able to overcome adversity
In a woman’s strong and stubborn way,
Is there anything she can’t do?!
Only one thing. To raise from the dead.
