PEDRO REYES

Mexican sculptor Pedro Reyes received guns, rifles and pistols disabled by the Mexican army.  He melted them down and forged them into mechanical musical instruments which can be played by computer.  He also collected over 1,500 guns and forged them into 1,500 shovels used to plant trees around the world.  Reyes said, “It’s basically the idea that we are turning an agent of death into an agent of life.”   About the musical instruments he said, “Weapons are the rule of fear and music is the opposite, it is the rule of trust.”  He went on, “Art is a weapon (to be used)…to produce culture…Art has the potential to change how we see the world.”
