Fulu Miziki is roughly translated as “music from the garbage.” A collective of musicians from the Democratic Republic of Congo came together to make music out of items gathered from the garbage. They are protesting the way the wealthier nations are using Africa as a trash bin, dumping their refuse in poorer countries. These “eco-friendly afro-futurist” musicians create their instruments and their outfits from salvaged materials.
BBC ran a report about them, mistakenly calling them Fulu Fiziki, but you can see some more of their work. While on tour in various European countries, the collective plucked more items for instruments and outfits from dumps in those countries.

Here you can see them in concert at the Rio Loco Festival in 2021 in Toulouse, France.
